One lucky lass from Parliament Speakers was treated to a night of corporate entertainment in the heart of London last week and what a show it turned out to be! If you want to give your guests, delegates or colleagues a really good laugh at your event this Christmas, you need to give these chaps a look...
The evening started with our colourful and comedic compares, The Horne Section. Led by award winning comedian and star of BBC 4’s We Need Answers Alex Horne, the musicians-cum-comedians masterfully hosted the evening, with a variety of hilarious audience participation games (including ‘People Connect Four’!) and comedic songs that kept everyone in stitches, while displaying prodigious musical skill.
The first act to be introduced was up-and-comer Naz Osmanoglu, fresh from Edinburgh and his show 1000% Awesome, which was flagged by Shortlist Magazine as ‘one of the 5 must see Edinburgh shows’ alongside Stewart Lee, Ricky Gervais, John Malkovich and The Pajama Men. Dark, witty and over-flowing with energy, Naz fills up the room with his unique brand of mad-cap humour.
Next up was the spectacularly funny Rob Deering, whose show The Rob Deering Experience earned him a host of rave reviews this year. Rob is another one who combines comedy with an obviously high level of musical skill, and the audience couldn’t stop giggling! His ability to integrate popular songs with his comedy ranges from delightfully silly one-liners, to satires of song choices suggested by the audience, showing off his musical and comedic ad-lib to great effect.
Third up was Phil Wang, Winner of the '2010 Chortle Student Comedian of the Year Award', the 'Comedy Central Live Funniest Student Award 2011' and current president of Footlights. If I was forced to choose, I would say Phil was the highlight of my evening. From his opening joke ‘I’m Phil Wang, the answer to the question; what would Gok Wan look like if he got a little bit fat?’, everyone was hooked. Considering Phil is also an Engineering Undergraduate, it’s remarkable that his individual brand of cynical and devilishly sharp humour is already so sophisticated.
Closing the show on a high note was the undeniably brilliant Richard Herring. That Richard has been around in comedy for two decades is evident in every aspect of his polished performance. Quick-witted, energetic and with a good dose of school-boyish silliness thrown in, Richard’s performance is superbly suited for a corporate audience; his experience allowing him to perfectly gage the audience's sense of humour. A real treat; a guaranteed crowd pleaser!
